Adding Services to Increase Profits

Everyday, as pet professionals, we are asked for referrals. Our customers trust us and rely on us to guide them in the proper direction when they need additional pet services for their four legged family members. The idea of multiple streams of income is not a new idea. Many grooming salons may already have a retail section. That’s a good start. What do your customers ask for? Think about all the business you send out the door! Hopefully you are networking with those pet service providers for reciprocal referrals but why not consider adding a service or two to what you currently offer. Statistically, service customers are very loyal and are big spenders. They shop more often and have a larger average ticket sale. Listed below are some services that may fit into what you offer and create income. In this economy it is comforting that you have more than one service to fall back on. Some services like dog training tend to peak when grooming services wane.

1)      Dog training…private lessons, phone consultations, in home training, puppy classes, potty training

2)      Pet Sitting

3)      Doggie Daycare

4)      Nutrition Consults

5)      Dog and/or Cat Boarding

6)      Self Service Dog Washes

7)      Doggie Bakery

8)      Massage

9)      Acupuncture

10)  Herbal, Holistic Consults

11)  Dog Waste Removal

12)  Invisible Fence Distributor

Start slowly and plan well. Research what you want to offer and do it well. If necessary, hire the appropriate employees that are able to do the service to your expectations.

Staying stagnant in this industry leaves your business open to a competitor opening a business down the road. Study trends and look for ideas that are fresh, fun and innovative.
