The type of business that attracts upscale clients is one that does not compromise quality for price. The customer comes for the services you offer. They come for the experience. They like how they are treated and they like the feeling they get when they walk into your business. You know their name, you know their pets’ name. There is a relationship.

You compete in the grooming market by providing excellent service, using quality products and provide a positive sensory experience. Each customer experience is individualized and unique, every time. You do not compromise on price. We all know those customers. They are the ones who shop around for the lowest prices and move from salon to salon. These are not the type on clients to build a business on because they are not loyal. No matter how much they like what you offer, they will go somewhere else on price. When you discount your price, you discount your value and your work. This is not how to stand out from the others. There will always be another business that will compete with you on price. You & your business need to stand out! As I have written in other posts, it costs considerably more to get new customers in the door than it does to retain the ones you have.

To create “The Salon Experience”, attention to detail is a must! From the products you use and sell, to the logo and interior design of your salon. To make sure you stand out from your competitors, know what their services are and how they conduct business. Make phone calls or visit. Ask questions. Have a friend investigate. What products do they offer? What is the décor like? What kind of promotion do they do? Be different, develop your niche. Stand out from the crowd from the mediocre salons. The salons that stand out generally have a smaller but more devoted/loyal customer base, and make more money. In the pet salon business, that means more time to spend with the pets we care for and their owners, building relationships. They should leave your business wowed by what they just experienced.
